Despite the worst of the recession being behind us, thousands of Northwest North Carolinians are still struggling to put adequate food on the table. Under the burdens of an uneven economic recovery and poverty, too many families are being left behind to face choices no one should have to make. Too often, food becomes the "fall guy" when other bills have to be paid.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC is a proud resource and partner for more than 450 on-the-ground food assistance programs across an 18-county service region. Together, we address immediate needs for food assistance in our communities and work to end hunger through education, outreach, advocacy and collaborative partnerships working to support long-term, positive change for families.
Last year, our food bank provided more than 25 million meals for local communities, assisting nearly 300,000 food insecure neighbors, including 100,000 children living at risk of hunger. With the table set in this essential way, our mission expands in local communities in partnership with others doing important work to find solutions that will help families achieve the stability and self-sufficiency they want and deserve. .
