Vance Elementary School is a collaborative community that values diversity and fosters responsibility, individual excellence and environmental stewardship. Vance Elementary School of Ecology focuses on the study of people and their relationship with the natural environment.
Students at Vance explore all subject areas through hands on activities and discover the importance of civic responsibility to make a difference in the community and the world. Instruction is based on the Common Core Curriculum and the NC Essential Standards. Students engage in art, music, Spanish, media, computer lab and physical education classes which integrate with classroom subject areas of math, language arts, science and social studies. Our media and technology programs serve students and teachers through flexible scheduling that supports student achievement and collaboration with classroom teachers. Technology at our school includes interactive white boards in each classroom, access to a computer lab, laptop carts, and iPads. After school enrichment classes offer students opportunities to learn more about their interests with a wide variety of topics to choose from. We have a very active and supportive Parent Team at Vance. Vance partners with A-B Tech and UNC Asheville in the America Reads program. We are also fortunate to have several community outreach partnerships including FEAST, Open Doors and Girls on the Run. Vance Elementary promotes a positive school climate and increased academic performance through Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). PBIS is a research-based framework providing effective alternatives to the traditional methods of discipline.
